I remembered something Hamish Muir told us in his lecture last year which would relate well to this brief. He was telling us what things were like for designers when he started out, & how basic software was when it first came out. This is an email i've sent him asking for a contribution to the blog. I understand he's a busy man & probably has far better things to do than write stories for students, but it's worth a try as a response from Muir would be amazing!
